About Us
Welcome to Sierra Elementary
Sierra Elementary School was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School in 2010. It was the only authorized Primary Years Programme (PYP) school in Placer County and the Greater Sacramento area at the time. Currently, there are four authorized PYP schools in Placer County. Sierra Elementary serves students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through sixth grades with an enrollment of about 450 students. Sierra Elementary is located in the center of a stable and supportive community, which expresses its values toward education through a high level of parent participation.
The staff of Sierra Elementary School strives to provide an exemplary, inquiry-based learning environment. Academic learning is the primary focus of the school, but commendably, the staff operates on the principle that a caring environment that fosters self-esteem and individual development is the best road toward realizing such learning. Toward that goal, Sierra proudly implements the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, including the IB Learner Profile Attributes. Rules of conduct are taught with the expectation that they are realized internally, leading to self-directedness and student initiative.
Finally, the staff welcomes the direct involvement of the community in these efforts. At Sierra Elementary School, parents and staff are dedicated to creating a safe and orderly learning environment in which students interact positively with others and can develop responsibility, confidence, and self-esteem while achieving their highest academic potential.
